Tips and Tricks
after surgery

Anticipate that it will be awkward and uncomfortable to use the arm for simple activities.

Depending on the surgery you will be unable to do certain things. This means planning ahead and getting help at home arranged.

Clothing should be loose fitting. Even trousers should be easily pulled up. Operated arm first.

Anything that fastens at the back will be impossible unaided.

An electric tooth brush can make brushing teeth much easier.

You cannot drive so provision before surgery

Cooking is difficult so have meals planned ahead of surgery.

Sleeping can be awkward and painful after surgery. Consider the spare room. Have extra pillows available.

Have two ice packs in the freezer. Ice to the shoulder after surgery can help pain.
